The 2010 Ford Taurus SHO: Its Back

2010 Taurus SHO

Ford performance fans in Bartlesville as well as all across the country have been hoping for years that Ford would bring back the SHO version of the Ford Taurus. With loyal and vocal calls for this car’s return, calls like those heard at Bring Back the SHO dot com it seemed like it was only matter of time. Well… guess what.

The 2010 Taurus SHO

Its finally official. The Ford Taurus SHO is back. No one was really surprised when Ford unveiled the new 2010 Ford Taurus SHO at the Chicago auto show. Reports of the return of the SHO (super high output) version of the classic and beloved American sedan had been all over the internet for months. But, surprising or not, this car is still able to draw a gasp from admiring crowds.

By now most have seen the 2010 Taurus which was officially unveiled at the Detroit show a few months back. Most will also probably be glad to hear that the SHO version of the car differs little appearance-wise from its less powerful brother, just as in the original version of this stealth sedan. The main points of difference are in the SHO’s unique three bar grille, a rear deck lid spoiler and chrome dual exhaust.

Ford SHO and MPGs

As for power, how does 365 hp and 350 ft-lbs of torque strike you? The 2010 Taurus SHO gets this power from a twin turbocharged direct injected 3.5 litre Eco-boost V6 matched to a six speed automatic (with steering wheel paddle shifters for performance obsessed drivers) that is programmed to emulate a manual during more demanding driving tasks. Ford’s real goal here was not simply pure power though. With the Eco-boost Ford looks to deliver V8 power with V6 fuel economy and, though official mileage estimates are not yet available, Ford expects a highway rating of somewhere around 25 mpg from the sHO.

In case that still doesn’t sufficiently get your gears grinding, Ford will offer a performance package to create an even sportier Taurus. The package is to include 20 inch Goodyear Eagle F-1 Supercar tires, heavier brake linings, the option of turning off stability control and a 3.16:1 final drive ratio in place of the standard 2.77:1 gearing.

Taurus SHO Interior

SHO: Mean And Green, Inside And Out

Ford’s commitment to the environment doesn’t stop with the Eco-boost power plant. A stylish interior in the Taurus SHO, with amenities like ten way adjustable leather seats, also features touches like Miko Suede inserts that are made from recycled plastic bottles and yarn.

Also found inside are aluminum-trimmed gas and brake pedals, aluminum trim interior accents, and a bevy of SHO logos as well as all of Ford’s great tech.

With the 2010 Taurus SHO key-less start and Ford’s SYNC voice control system for the phone and stereo come standard. Available options will include radar cruise control, blind-spot monitoring system, a reverse camera, massaging seats, navigation, and an upgraded Sony sound system.
