Honda Accord # 6 For December 2008 on the “Doenges Top Ten” Used Cars
December 19, 2008 by admin
Honda Accord is one name that is never far from any used car top ten list. For nearly thirty years the Accord has been praised by experts as one of the the most reliable cars on the road. With a winning combination of design, quality, and technology, Honda has produced a car that is easy to maintain, dependable, comfortable, and stylish. With those attributes, its no wonder it made this top ten list as well.
First produced in 1976 the Honda Accord, in its modern form, is a mid-sized vehicle that is available in either a four door sedan or a two door coupe model. Mileage ranges, depending on year and engine, from 18 mpg city 26 mpg highway, with a 3.0L V6, to 23 mpg city 31 mpg highway, when the 2.4L four cylinder is paired with a five speed manual transmission. The four cylinder models can boast best in class fuel economy while the V6 in newer models puts out a significant 244 hp. With manual and automatic transmission models with either engine, there is an economy and power combination that will fit most everyone’s needs.
All Accord models offer good stability and handle well with newer models combining double wishbone suspension and standard ABS. The V6 models are equipped with standard traction control as well. All in all, the car is nicely responsive and allows the driver solid control of the road.
The interior of the Honda Accord is roomy and takes into consideration both convenience and the comfort of the driver. The seats are supportive, all controls are easily within reach, and even the passengers, front and back, are afforded plenty of room. When less passenger space is required, the rear seat backs fold down to offer more cargo room than is already afforded by a spacious trunk. Behind the wheel, the driver is confronted with a stylish high tech dashboard featuring well displayed modern gauges. Put it all together and once inside the Accord you almost get the feel you’d expect from pricier luxury sedans.
Speaking of price, affordability is one area where the Accord won’t be making any top ten list. Known for their high resale values, used Accords are not cheap. If you are looking to spend a little less an older model is an option, though, as well maintained Accords will run well for many years. Aside from price about the only complaints you will find about the car are some issues with wind and road noise at highway speeds.
Those issues aside, you will feel safe knowing that the Accord receives five star ratings for both driver and front passenger in NHTSA frontal crash tests. A good rating was achieved in frontal offset tests.
As you can see, there is a reason the Accord has had the impact on the American market that it has. The high resale value is the product of a well made popular car that can demand premium prices. Though no longer the top selling Japanese car in the US, a title it held for twenty years, the Honda Accord is still a force to be reckoned with and a deserving participant in this used car top ten.
