Four Neat Features for the 2012 Ford Edge
The 2012 Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover SUV considered one of the top vehicles in its class because of its well-rounded nature. It is characterized by its stylish exterior, wide range of features, quiet and roomy cabin, comfortable ride, and its composed handling. The size of the Edge is just right for most families and contributes to its popularity as one of the most sought-after crossovers in the country.
Digging deeper into the benefits of the 2012 Ford Edge, it is clear that this vehicle is designed with convenience as the top consideration because of its wide range of features which include:
In the 2012 Ford Edge It’s -”Look Ma No Hands” – Ford SYNC with MyFord Touch
The 2012 Ford Edge is one of the first Ford vehicles to be equipped with the MyFord Touch and the SYNC in-vehicle voice-activated phone integration, entertainment, and navigation system.
With the Ford SYNC and MyFord Touch, drivers no longer need to fiddle through their bags to get their phone in order to make or answer calls, or find their mp3 players and gadgets in order to play them in the vehicle. MyFord Touch connects to all major gadgets such as mobile phones, mp3 players, USB drives and even SD cards to allow users to control them through the steering wheel buttons, the LCD touch screen, or even through voice commands.
With the Ford SYNC and MyFord Touch, users can easily make or answer calls, access multimedia files, ask for directions, organize driver console items, and even use their phones as a mobile router to enable wireless internet connectivity within the vehicle. Users can also install their own “apps” to add to their vehicle experience.
Ford SYNC with MyFord Touch are two outstanding systems that are perfect for car owners who want maximum convenience and enjoyment of their vehicle, maximum safety and seamless integration of the communication, entertainment, and navigation features which can be accessed or controlled without letting go of the steering wheel.
Fall in Love with the 2012 Ford Edge Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning
The Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning system is an automated cruise control system that controls the speed of the 2012 Ford Edge while cruising in traffic. The driver can select 4 preset distance settings which are used to control the speed of the Edge when it gets too close to the vehicle in front of it or too far. It maintains a distance between the Edge and the vehicle in front based on the settings chosen by the driver.
Collision warning automatically alerts the driver of possible imminent collisions by displaying warning alerts on the windshield as well as audio warning alerts. The brake sensitivity is automatically adjusted based on how imminent a collision is.
The Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning system can come in handy, especially when driving for long periods or after long stressful periods at work when the driver may become tired while behind the wheel driving home. It is not only a convenient driving feature; it also helps in avoiding accidents on the road.
2-liter EcoBoost Engine in the 2012 Ford Edge Delivers the Boost When You Need It
The advanced 2.0-liter twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) V6 EcoBoost engine provides a whopping EPA rating of 21 city miles per gallon and 30 highway miles per gallon. It delivers the power and performance necessary to run a crossover but with the fuel economy of a smaller vehicle. The 2.0-liter V6 EcoBoost engine can help Edge owners save hundreds or even thousands of dollars of fuel expenditures every year without having to give up power and performance.
With the 2012 Ford Edge You will Have Plenty of Room for Life’s Big & Little Errands
On top of everything else, the Edge has a whopping 68.9 cubic feet of cargo space– plenty of space to give larger SUVs a run for their money.
Overall, the 2012 Ford Edge is an outstanding value and worthy of consideration if you are shopping for a new vehicle.

How the Car Business is Changing
August 26, 2010 by Brad - Your Car Guy · Comments Off
Change: “to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone…”
This is the first in a series of short posts on change in the car business. Some changes are obvious. Some changes are hidden. As a third generation car dealer, I believe that our business is entering a period of the most profound and rapid change we have ever experienced — and that is saying something. Of course, we’re not alone in this. The entire world is experiencing the same thing. My hope is to help you as a consumer to understand the changes going on in the car business, so that you will be empowered to make the best decisions for your own particular situation.
Transparency
Transparency is explained by Wikipedia as follows. Transparency, as used in the humanities, implies openness, communication, and accountability. It is a metaphorical extension of the meaning used in the physical sciences: a “transparent” object is one that can be seen through.
In the car business, access to information and an increasingly efficient market is driving increased transparency. As a consumer you have access to more information than ever before. Just “Google” whatever you drive now. A search just a moment ago for “2008 Toyota Camry” resulted in 5,580,000 results (that’s way more than the number of Camry’s sold that year!). As you know the quality of the information you have can make a big difference. Automotive consumers have more choices and increased access to information, which leads to a more efficient market. You wouldn’t pay more than the going rate for a publicly traded stock. Until relatively recently, consumers and dealers alike didn’t have access to this kind of information that they could count on to be accurate.
I have to say all this is a good thing for our business. The car business needs to change and quickly. We have to develop new ways to do business that meet our customers’ needs.
At Doenges Toyota Ford Lincoln Mercury we talk about this all the time. We strive to be leaders in increased transparency of a car deal and upfront dealings with our customers. For an example of how this might work check out our “shopping cart” for automotive e-commerce at http://www.aidealer.com/AiDealerProduction/DealershipInventorySearch.aspx?DealershipId=28
The nuts and bolts of a car deal is just math. The real magic in our business comes from helping people.

Quality is Free if You Do it Right the First Time
May 21, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · Comments Off
I’m lucky and proud to be a Ford dealer because not only do we have quality products we have quality leadership.
I came across this story on Bloomberg yesterday and I would like to share it with you.
May 20 (Bloomberg) — Ford Motor Co. Executive Chairman Bill Ford, great-grandson of the company’s founder, said it is in the national interest that the automaker keep operating without federal aid.
“It is not up to the taxpayer to save the automakers”…
“It’s in the country’s interest that Ford remain free of taxpayer money,” Ford said yesterday in an interview in his Dearborn, Michigan, office overlooking the 2,000-acre Rouge factory complex built by Henry Ford. “Anything we can do to minimize the amount of taxpayer money going into the private sector is probably a good thing.”
Level the playing field by not allowing bribes to go to GM and Chrysler
Ford, 52, said he has talked with members of the Obama administration to ensure the company isn’t hurt by being the only U.S. automaker to forgo federal funds. Chrysler LLC is restructuring in a U.S.-backed bankruptcy, and General Motors Corp. probably also will end up in Chapter 11 by June 1.
The discussions are aimed at “not being disadvantaged from the fact that we’re an independent company, not taking taxpayer money,” Ford said. “That’s in the national interest that that happens.”
Ford won’t touch that with a 10 foot pole.
His comments reinforced the company’s efforts to distance itself from Chrysler and GM, which received $19.4 billion in emergency loans to stave off collapse. While those automakers restructure in and out of court, Ford Motor has been showcasing projects such as factory investments to support new small cars.
Ford Motor’s strategy on a bailout evolved throughout late 2008, Ford said.
‘Go It Alone’
On Dec. 2, Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally testified to Congress with the CEOs of GM and Chrysler and appealed for a $9 billion credit line. Within weeks, the second-largest U.S. automaker reversed the decision after deciding it had the cash to “go it alone,” said Ford, who served CEO before he hired Mulally in 2006.
The Government is Not Good At Manufacturing Quality Cars, Crossovers, SUV’s and Trucks
“When we started seeing what the restrictions of taking government money would mean to our ability to operate quickly and strategically, we felt that wasn’t a position we wanted to be in,” Ford said. “We felt we could pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and make it on our own.”
While Ford Motor lost a record $14.7 billion in 2008 and remains at risk from the worst U.S. auto market in 27 years, it’s getting a public-image boost for not taking government aid, said Efraim Levy, a Standard & Poor’s equity analyst.
“Ford is benefiting from its independence,” said Levy, who is based in New York and advises holding the shares. “Consumers don’t resent them for taking their tax dollars to stay alive.”
Mulally’s Gambit
Mulally’s borrowing of $23 billion in late 2006, with all the company’s major assets pledged as collateral, positioned Ford Motor to shun a rescue, Levy said.
“Ford was fortunate enough to get those loans in advance of the credit markets freezing up,” he said. “Take away that liquidity, and Ford would be in the same boat as the other two.”
Ford Motor has more than doubled this year in New York Stock Exchange composite trading as it cut debt by $9.9 billion and won concessions from the United Auto Workers to pare annual labor costs by $500 million. The shares fell 7 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $5.56 at 11:45 a.m. in New York.
Bonds for Ford Motor’s lending arm, Ford Motor Credit, rallied today. Ford Credit’s 7 percent notes due October 2013 rose 3.3 cents to 81.1 cents on the dollar, the highest since June, according to Trace, the bond-pricing service of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. The yield was 12.8 percent.
With $21.3 billion in automotive cash at the end of March, Ford Motor is now working to add new, fuel-efficient models and retool factories to wean itself from dependence on fuel-thirsty trucks.
Opportunity, Caution
“This is a time of real opportunity for us, but also some real cautions as well,” Ford said. “We are spending a lot of time trying to figure out what this all means to us.”
Among the risks are lower costs and better financing for GM and Chrysler from a U.S.-backed restructuring, said Brian Johnson, a Chicago-based Barclays Capital analyst. He rates Ford as “underweight”
This Author Says Johnson is the “Underweight” NOT FORD and this is why: Johnson says”lower costs and better financing for GM and Chrysler”…really! When? The front of the bread line starts with suppliers and employees of GM and Chrysler and this idea of lower cost and better financing is years away…if ever.
More funding for those automakers and their credit arms would increase “their ability to offer discount financing and subsidize price wars,” Johnson said. “It will certainly put pressure on Ford’s strategy to improve their retail prices.” (Comment…Johnson this is total NONSENSE…would this also put pressure on Toyota and Honda? Hardly!)
This Author Says Johnson Must be Smoking Crack (Go Look at My Article of March 16, 2009-Under Car Buying Tips-)What GM and Chrysler need are better products, quality merchandise, an improvement in quality across the board. What sells today in dealer showrooms is quality, NOT hyped up discounts. To survive GM and Chrysler need to invest in quality.
Ford said the automaker is improving its prospects with new models like the Fiesta subcompact car coming from Europe and the Fusion hybrid, along with two battery-powered autos coming in the next two years and a plug-in hybrid due in 2012.
‘Competitive Position’
“I really like our competitive position,” Ford said. “Having said that, we are still speaking with the government to say, where possible, ‘Please don’t disadvantage us.’”
Besides his own contacts with administration officials, company executives talk frequently with President Barack Obama’s autos task force, Ford said.
He said he was pleased shareholders rejected a proposal at the May 14 annual meeting to strip Ford family members of a special class of stock that gives them 40 percent voting control of the 105-year-old company. Bill Ford and his cousin, Edsel Ford II, are directors.
Bill Ford Works Lean Tough and Smart and the Reward Goes to His Customers
“I would hope that shareholders would see that our interests are aligned with theirs,” Ford said. “It’s more than just a financial investment, it’s an emotional investment. It’s pride. I mean, our name is on the product. If it was just a financial investment, the family probably would have been out years and years ago.”

Bartlesville Oklahoma Ford Dealership Going Strong in Their 68th Year of Service in the Community
April 26, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · Comments Off
Doenges Celebrates 68th Year in Bartlesville
In April 1941, my grandfather, William C. “Bill” Doenges, purchased the Ford dealership in Bartlesville from Bert Gaddis. Two generations and 68 years later his business is still going strong.
He Was Only 14 Years Old
Bill Doenges took his first job with the Ford agency in Tonkawa when he was 14. His ambition to become a dealer was realized in 1931 when he acquired the agency at Braman, north of Blackwell.
The Ford Story in Bartlesville, Braman, Coffeyville, Towanka and Tulsa
Over the next 20 years, one success led to another as he operated numerous dealerships. In 1936 he acquired the Ford agency in Tonkawa, and in 1942 acquired the Ford agency in Coffeyville, Kansas.
In 1948, he bought the Ford agency in Tulsa, which was later operated by his sons, Bill (my father) and Bob Doenges, as Doenges Brothers Ford. (As an aside, last month I mentioned that he acquired the dealership in Braman in 1929. We have some documentation for this – he was honored by Ford Motor Co. in 1979 for being a 50 year Ford Dealer; however in preparing to compose this letter, I found some newspaper quotes from him indicating this was actually in 1931. Who knows?)
Doenges The Senior Toyota Dealer in Oklahoma
In 1968, he acquired the Toyota franchise at the Bartlesville dealership, and in 1984 added Lincoln Mercury. Today, Doenges is the oldest Toyota dealer in the state of Oklahoma.
By the late 1970s, the agency had outgrown its original location on Osage between Frank Phillips and 4th Street and moved to our current location on Washington Boulevard.
By the late 1980s, as his health deteriorated my uncle Bob became more involved in the dealership, eventually becoming the dealer principal when my grandfather passed away in 1991.
“All I Ever Wanted to be was a Good Ford For Our Community”…Bill Doenges 1971
My grandfather had many other interests and accomplishments in his life and was a super grandfather, but he told me late in his life that “all I ever really wanted to be was a good Ford dealer.” In 1971, when celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Bartlesville agency he said, “if I were to start over today in business, I would buy the Ford agency in Bartlesville…I felt it was the best community in Oklahoma 30 years ago and it still is!”
To Learn, To Love, To Leave a Legacy
It’s in keeping with this spirit that I proudly carry on his legacy. He set a great example through his success, but more importantly through his commitment to the community with his leadership and financial support for dozens of organizations, sports teams and causes. If you ask any Doenges associate today, I feel confident they would say the thing they are most proud of working here is the fact that Doenges Toyota Ford Lincoln Mercury is active in our community and gives back to make it stronger for everyone.
Doenges Ford Lincoln Mercury Toyota Recognized and Voted the Favorite
As I said in my letter last month, there is a reason we’ve been voted Bartlesville’s Best Auto Dealer the last four years in the Examiner-Enterprise Best of Bartlesville Readers’ Choice Awards. To the point, it is our employees and our customers. It’s you – you are the reason!
Ford Is Financially Secure, Strong and Stable
It’s a crazy time. Who would have predicted that the U.S. Government would virtually be running leading American automobile manufacturers? Or that they might actually need to go through bankruptcy to restructure? We’re awfully proud of Ford Motor Co. for not being in that position. We feel our products across all our lines, Toyota, Ford Lincoln and Mercury, are the best, and the best they have ever been. If you don’t believe me or know someone who doesn’t, do as Ford says, come “Drive One” I’m sure you will be impressed. Call or email me or one of my associates and we will show you!
At Doenges Toyota Ford Lincoln Mercury we’re still fighting for your business and winning every day. We know that our future and the future of our country depend on hard work, the willingness to sacrifice and a commitment to each other as co-workers, community members and Americans.
As we celebrate our 68th birthday, I want to personally say thank you! We can’t do it without you.
Best regards,
Brad Doenges 3rd Generation Auto Dealer

Ford Work Trucks and Ford Work Solutions
April 14, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · Comments Off
F-150 and Ford Work Solutions
Ford Motor Company has been producing tough, dependable, hardworking vehicles for years. Whether its with their F-series trucks or their E-series vans, Ford’s fleet of work vehicles has consistently been amongst the leaders in both innovation and reliability and are fixtures on job sites here in Bartlesville and all across America. From the Crown Victoria to the F-150 to the upcoming Transit Connect, if your job involves a vehicle it is likely a Ford. And now, thanks to Ford’s new Work Solutions technologies, that tough dependable Ford is about to evolve into a whole new species of 21st century ready work vehicle.
Last month Ford introduced their new Ford Work Solutions technologies, now available in 2009 F-150, F-series Super Duty and E-series vans. According to ford, Ford Work Solutions is a collection of affordable technologies, including four industry first features, which offer Ford truck customers a brand new level of connectivity, flexibility and security in their work vehicle. These new technologies aim to allow Ford owners to better run key aspects of their business, helping to make business owners more productive and successful.
Ford Work Solutions Four Innovative New Features
First on the list of new technologies is Ford’s new in-dash computer, developed with Magneti Marelli and powered by Microsoft Auto, which provides high-speed Internet access via the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network, Bluetooth-enabled Hands Free Calling and navigation by Garmin. It is the first broadband-capable in-dash computer in production. The system allows customers to print invoices, check inventories and access documents stored on their home or office computer networks – right on the job site. users can even update files and print them with an available blue-tooth enabled, battery powered, inkjet printer. The computer is integrated into the vehicle’s center stack, filling the same space normally occupied by the standard radio. It is equipped with a 6.5-inch, high-resolution touch screen, four gigabytes of memory, a secure digital slot for added memory, a USB port and a wireless keyboard and mouse. A stylus, stored next to the CD slot, is included for use on the touch screen.
Next there is tool Link, a Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) asset tracking system developed in partnership with DeWALT™, the industry leader in professional power tools, and ThingMagic, the industry expert on embedded RFID technology. This technology enables customers to maintain a detailed real-time inventory of the tools or equipment stored in the pickup. When the vehicle is running, a pair of RFID antennas, mounted in corrosion- and impact-resistant housings on the inside of the pickup box, scan the box for the items bearing RFID tags on a pre-programmed inventory list. The data is transmitted to a reader mounted inside the cab and displayed on the in-dash computer screen, alerting the driver if any inventoried tools are not loaded on the truck. this helps top both eliminate tools being left behind on the job site and leaving for a job without the tools that will be needed for a job being loaded onto the truck.
Crew Chief is another of the new technologies. It is a fleet telematics and diagnostics system which allows small fleet owners to efficiently manage their vehicles, quickly dispatch workers to job sites, monitor driver performance and keep detailed vehicle maintenance records. The system not only supplies real time vehicle location information, allowing dispatchers to efficiently and optimally deploy fleets, but can also monitor information like tire pressure and check engine codes as well as identify user set alerts like excessive idling time. The system can also provide fuel calculations and fuel tax reporting to help business owners manage costs.
And lastly there is the new Cable Lock security system developed in partnership with Master Lock®, the industry-leading lock manufacturer. This new system is designed to discourage theft of expensive tools too large to fit in the cab. Comprised of an eight foot long retractable steel cable which is contained in an impact resistant spring loaded housing in the rear of the pick-up box, the cable lock security system easily winds around toolbox handles or through compressor or generator frames and is then locked to the truck with a cuff style clasp. The system is easily installed on almost any Ford Pick up truck.

Ford’s Upcoming 2010 Ford Fusion Hyper-miling Event
April 9, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · Comments Off
2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid Challenge Comes to Pass
Those of you who have been reading here for a while might remember a post I did a while back titled “2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid-Road Rally Challenge- Results”. In that post I put forth the idea of starting a road rally challenge to try and get 1000 miles from a single tank full of gas in a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Well, guess what?
I have it on good authority, the authority being Ford, that this idea is actually something Ford is looking to do later this month. Apparently they have been training with a hyper-miler named Wayne Gerdes for just this sort of event. From what I was told by the Ford public affairs guy who read my post, the event is to be a trip from Ford’s home town of Dearborn, Michigan to Washington driven by a 5 man team and is expected to take around forty four hours.
There were also some preliminary mpg numbers discussed but I think I might keep those secret a little longer so as not to ruin the surprise. I will, however, say that the estimated 41 mpg of the Ford Fusion Hybrid, and even my suggestion that they try to achieve 1000 miles from a single tank are looking like they are well short of the numbers a hyper-miler like Mr. Gerdes can achieve.
Hyper-Miling in the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid
About this time I assume many might be asking what is hyper-miling anyway?
Hyper-miling is nothing more than adjusting your driving habits to achieve maximum fuel mileage from your vehicle. With the abundance of cars that focus on fuel mileage and the surge in hybrids that has occurred over the past few years the number of people who have abandoned seeing how fast they can go to try and find out how far they can go on a single gallon or tank of gas has increased greatly. And with new technologies like the 2010 Ford Fusion SmartGauge with Eco-Guide everyone can get in on the fun.
To learn more about hyper-miling check out the conversation at Hypermiling Forum.com. With a little research you might be the next person to push your Ford Fusion well past the thousand mile mark.

Ford Eco-Boost Technology

What is Eco-Boost?
A couple of days ago I received an e-mail from a reader who had read a recent post I wrote on the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO. The reader noticed the use of the term Eco-boost when referring to the SHO’s V6 powerplant and was wondering what the term denoted. So, for those of you who may be wondering this as well, I though with today’s post I’d focus a little more on Ford’s Eco-boost.
If you are a Ford consumer, Eco-Boost is a term you will probably be hearing a lot in coming years. Aside from the Taurus SHO Ford vehicles like the F-150, Mustang, Ford Fusion, and Lincoln MKS will offer an Eco-Boost option in coming models. But what does Eco-Boost mean?
