June 11, 2010 by Brad - Your Car Guy · Comments Off
Starting Friday June 11, 2010 and for the next nine days you can experience all of the culture and diversity of New York, Chicago, or San Francisco has to offer, in Bartlesville Oklahoma.
This event has something for everyone and all age groups. The organizers have arranged the entertainment into three different series. Classical, Discovery and the Crossover series.
- The Classical or C Series: The C-Series is the largest series and core of the Festival. It predominantly features OK MOZART’s Resident Orchestra and Chamber Music Ensemble. The C-Series features the best in classical music and incorporates a mix of works by Mozart and the Masters in addition to contemporary classical repertoire.
- The Discovery or D-Series is designed to provide an alternative to pure classical music. It relates to a broader audience and encompasses all aspects of the performing arts. The D-series includes concerts held in non-traditional settings.
- The Crossover or X -Series is designed to offer a performance that reaches beyond the confines of
classical music and performing arts. The X-Series programs have little or no relation to classical music and provide the opportunity for progressive, cutting-edge performances for non-classical enthusiasts or a change of pace for audiences that appreciate diversity.
Here are a few other insights to a Festivsal I invite you to visit and enjoy.

Doenges Ford-Bartlesville Oklahoma-a Genuine Legacy
May 28, 2010 by Stealthman- You Car Guy · Comments Off
By Russ Mullin Guest Contributor
To Live-To Love-To Learn-To Leave a Legacy. The term legacy implies leaving something of value for others to enjoy and or benefit from. Before you can pass along or bequeath value you have to earn the value. True value is earned by design, desire, vision, sacrifice, giving, learning , passion and hard work.
Giving Back to the Community. We hear this term a lot and at times “giving back to the community” echos a shallow rhetoric theme. Some businesses have no idea what giving to their community really is. I have seen ads in different forms of media proclaim “We give back to the community”. Action speaks louder than words. The business that really gives back value does so incognito. You don’t need to brag about it.
A local, hometown business is dependent on the local population for survival and success. The business must offer their products at a fair price and excellence in service after the sell. Excellent service is another over used and abused word. When we discuss the equation of a Legacy the terms service and excellence must be defined.
What is Excellence in Service? To achieve excellence does this mean satisfy 100% of your customers 100% of the time? I think we would both agree this is a fantasy. No one person or company is 100% . But 97% or 98% is a fantastic number to shoot for.
The 3% Brain Damage Rule. I have found in my business career that there are three people out of every one-hundred I cannot satisfy regardless of what I do. Sometimes I think these three customers are people who’s sole goal in life is to complain and spread misery, they are radioactive in any environment they occupy. If you work in any customer service environment you will meet three jerks out of every 100 customers you encounter. To prevent brain damage when you encounter a jerk just say to yourself “one down two to go”.
Excellent Service is Not A Destination. Now I don’t want to leave the impression that the other 97 customers are always in the “hunky-dory” mode. We have our service problems but I can tell you we solve 99% of all service issues. You may ask well how about the other 1% ? Well there is at least one loon out there for every 100 customers who will never be satisfied. I call it one of life’s mystery that will never be solved.
So What Does All of This Have to do With The Doenges Legacy? Before you can even be considered a Legacy excellent service needs to be an integral function and part of you business DNA. Excellent Service covers a wide net. You need to think in terms of Service in the following four areas.
- Excellence in Service to Your Customers
- Excellence in service to Your Employees
- Excellence in Service to Your Vendors
- Excellence in Service to Your Community
To build a legacy you need to hit the ball out of the park on all four of these service levels. Then you have to do it for five or more consecutive years.
The Doenges Family has been an Excellent Service Provider in All Four Arenas For the Last 69 Years! The Doenges team has mastered these four areas of Exemplary Service for 69 years. How many other enterprises, nationwide, have achieved this plateau of distinction? Well we both know that answer, few and far between.
Awards Should be Designed to Recognize Superlative Achievement. One proud community in Northeast Oklahoma hosts a prestigious Award Program called the Legacy Hall of Fame . According to Julia Crouch the Bartlesville Community Foundation that produces the event; The 2010 Legacy Hall of Fame honoree, the Bill Doenges family, represent generations of giving back to the community of Bartlesville.
Bill Meets Bert 69 Years Ago-The Start of Another Bartlesville Legacy. Crouch continues, the Doenges family story came to life in Bartlesville in 1941, when William C. “Bill” Doenges, purchased the Ford dealership from Bert Gaddis. Bill had already been working in the car business for over twenty years, operating numerous dealerships, including Tonkawa and Coffeyville. Bill continued to expand his business and bought the Ford agency in Tulsa in 1948.
How Bill and Elizabeth Spreed the Wealth. Crouch added , the car business wasn’t the only love that Bill Doenges passed on to his family. He and his wife Elizabeth really cared about this community. Through their leadership and financial support for dozens of organizations, sports teams, and causes, the couple set a great example for others to follow. That spirit of generosity is seen in present-day Bartlesville, as the Doenges family continues to invest quietly in valuable programs and community projects, including being the longest-running sponsor of an American Legion baseball team in the United States.
Today, two generations later, Doenges Toyota Ford Lincoln Mercury continues its success as a premier auto dealership in Bartlesville.

A Bartlesville Benchmark Since 1968- Doenges Toyota
April 5, 2010 by Brad - Your Car Guy · Comments Off
In 1968, when the first Toyota came rolling off the transport truck at Doenges Ford, there were a lot of people stopping to look. To say the little Japanese cars didn’t quite look right amongst the bigger ‘69 Ford Mustangs, Torinos, Galaxys, Broncos and F-Series trucks would be an understatement.
But Bill Doenges thought he was on to something. You see, that little car was built pretty well, and best of all got an amazing 26 miles per gallon.
Toyota has come a long way since then, and so has Doenges Toyota, now in its third generation of the Doenges family.
We’ve been with many of you from your very first car to your very first family car, to the car you drive to see your grandchildren. There’s been a lot of press lately about how Toyota’s rapid growth led them to overlook the quality of certain aspects of their vehicles. Over the past few months, Toyota and Toyota dealers like Doenges have tirelessly made strides to correct the issues and live up to what Toyota drivers expect in their vehicles. Every customer will be satisfied. Completely Satisfied Customers, a Doenges Ford Lincoln Mercury Toyota trademark and tradition for the last 69 years.
Just like Bill stood beside Toyota in 1968, Doenges Toyota stands beside the brand today. When you purchased your Toyota from Doenges, you didn’t buy it from a big corporation. You bought if from a family owned business, with a deep history of almost seventy years in the community and a Sales and Service staff that we believe reflects our passion for what we do.
Despite the recent troubles for Toyota, and despite predatory sales techniques like government-owned General Motors using tax payer bail-out money as incentives to bribe Toyota owners to hand in their keys, you have stood beside us. We thank you. To thank you for standing beside us.

The Ford F-150 Platinum Truck Drop from Bartlesville’s Frank Lloyd Wright Price Tower
July 3, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · 1 Comment
The phone’s been ringing off the hook. If you live in Northern Oklahoma, chances are you know why. A few days ago we announced that we would be dropping our F-150 off of Bartlesville’s Price Tower to demonstrate how tough Ford Trucks are. Seems the folks around these parts agree…they’re worried about about what one of our trucks would do to the Frank Lloyd Wright tower, and as a Price Tower Board Member, I don’t blame them. I thought I would take a few minutes and explain how this promotion will work, and why I believe it’s “safe”.
Here’s our components:
The Product: A 2009 Ford F150 Platinum Edition with a standard equipment package that would impress Frank Lloyd Wright. The all new F-150 has too many standard features to list here. This is a Ford workhorse pick-up with a plethora of luxurious appointments.
The Blueprint Location: Price Tower in Bartlesville Oklahoma. Visible from no less than 10 miles on the Northeast Oklahoma open prairie.
The Price Tower is a nineteen story, 221 foot high tower in Bartlesville, that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It is the only realized skyscraper by Wright, and is one of only two vertically-oriented Wright structures extant (the other is the S.C. Johnson Wax Research Tower in Racine, Wisconsin).
Bartlesville’s Price Tower a National Landmark
The Price Tower was commissioned by Harold C. Price of the H. C. Price Company, a local oil pipeline and chemical firm. It opened to the public in February 1956. Price Tower was added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1974 and was designated a National Landmark in 2007.
The Price Tower Arts Center is the art complex at Price Tower. It is a civic art museum, and with a keen focus on art, architecture and design. Features includes a museum, tours of the historic tower, and a hotel that is unique.
Flawless Execution: “How the Heck are You Going to Do That?”
This promotion was first discussed after I ran the story on my Grandfather, Bill Doenges on April 26. “Doenges Celebrates their 68th year in Bartlesville”. That story prompted a lot of local conversation. One of those conversations took place at Price Tower, which is a hop, skip and a jump from Doenges Ford, Lincoln, Mercury & Toyota.
Wait a minute….Eggs and a Ford F150…I don’t get it?
That conversation was centered on an event at Price Tower that is called the “Eggstravaganza”. This is a wonderful event hosted by the Price Tower which challenges both youth and adults to drop an egg in a container – designed by the participant – from the ninth floor of the Price Tower. While this event is always well attended, I was discussing it with Price Tower Executive Director Tim Boruff on how we might be able to make this years event even bigger. On my drive back to the dealership…”Bam!!” it hit me…it was a little off the wall…but what the heck.
I challenged Chris Oldroyd, our Advertising and Marketing guy, to come up with a promotion that would include Price Tower while positioning our brand. The idea was to compare the durability of a Ford truck to the fragile eggs which are to be dropped on July 18th at the “Eggstravaganza” event. After a few weeks, Chris brought his presentation to me. With the assistance of several structural engineers, architects, and a team of others I was left to choose Plan A, Plan B or Plan C.
Is it Door # 1, Door #2 or Door # 3?
Plan A: Was radical and that is an understatement. Chris and his team assured me that they could pull this off. Although very creative, and it would be memorable for years to come I nixed the Plan. It just had too many what if’s?
Plan B: Had all of the elements of Plan A without the risk.
Plan C: Was creative but would not be memorable.
I choose Plan B…….Soooo what is Plan B?
If I revealed the mechanics of the promotion it would ruin your curiosity, fun and excitement of this event. It reminds me of a sign I saw a in a retail Magic Tricks store. The sign read: “Once the Trick is Sold the Secret is Told” therefore No Refunds. I will let your imagination fill in any gaps. Better yet just show up. This event will start at 6:30PM sharp on Friday July 10th, rain or shine. I don’t really know what all the hub-bub is about… surely we can’t be the first people to drop a truck from a building, can we?
By the way, click here for a sneak peek at Plan B
If you can’t make it to the event I will post a recap over the July 11th -12th weekend.
P.S. My grandfather believed that giving back and being a active participant in the community was the civically responsible thing to do. It was essential for the survival of the local car dealership. The Price Tower is a cause that is close to my heart and one that I take a particular interest and active involvement in. This promotion will retain the integrity of Price Tower and give us a chance to give back to the community….and provide fun and entertainment for all.
