Buying a New Vehicle on Your Terms
July 31, 2008 by Brad - Your Car Guy
A lot of people would rank buying a new car about the same as going to the dentist. It’s a necessary part of life occasionally, but often pretty unpleasant to go through the process. Ultimately, you’re glad you did it……but…..until it’s done, it can be a huge source of stress to work out the details.
Whether you’re not confident about the research you’ve done to find the right make and model, or you don’t like to haggle about the price with the sales person, or you don’t like feeling pressured by the sales person, you’d probably agree that a no pressure car sale from a sales person that doesn’t waste your time would be a welcome experience?
Here’s How to Avoid Car Buying Hassle and Pressure
If you’d like to buy a car without sales tactics, then you are not alone. Many car dealers are trying to lessen the pressure and lessen the price haggling involved because of the number of people that report this to be so unpleasant.
One important thing that you can take care of before you even arrive at the car dealership is to find out about your financing. How much money can you afford to borrow? How much can you put down for a down payment? Obviously, many people are dealing with trade-ins and hoping to get some money for that, but going in with a “ballpark” idea of what you can spend and afford will save you time and hassle. You can then choose to only look at makes and models that you can afford (and are willing to pay for), instead of having the sales person show you vehicles that you would never actually buy. Additionally, financing through the dealership where you are purchasing your car is most likely to be more expensive than through your bank or credit union.
Get a New Car for the Best Price Possible
Know the value of your trade-in, or at least have a pretty good idea, before you purchase a new or used car. Do some research about the book value, and then go ahead and take it to a couple of car dealers to get an idea. Knowing what to expect for your trade-in will help you not only get the best price possible on your new car, but it will help you plan better by knowing your financial situation a little more clearly. This is the easy way to buy a new car and get the best price! Also, knowing the new car invoice prices keeps you from paying too much profit to the dealer-remember, they are certainly entitled to some profit, too, but having this information may keep you from paying too much.
Believe it or not, you can make car buying a pleasure. You can buy a car without sales tactics-don’t fall victim to cheesy sales techniques, know your financial situation, and know what to expect and what you can pay for a new or used car.
Preparation Pays Off “Big Time”
The one single thing you can do to get your best deal when shopping for a new or used vehicle is preparation. Go on line and narrow your search down to the two or three vehicles that you have the most interest in. Spend a couple of hours learning everything you possibly can about the vehicle you want to purchase. From a salespersons point of view a well informed prospect is the best type of customer to work with. In this case the salesperson becomes your ally abd you will drive off in your new vehicle that you purchased on your terms.
