Seat Belts and Ford: The Good The Bad and the Ugly

Seat Belts and the Ford Motor Company: Why Ford Earns Four Gold Stars
How many of you would buy a car without seat belts?
If I put this question to a vote, I bet not one hand would go up.
How many times have you read or heard a story about an auto accident involving a fatality or a serious injury and you silently whisper to yourself “I wonder if they were wearing a seat belt?”…. If you have nod your head yes.
Before I can talk about seat belts I want to let you in on a dirty little secret with an unique slant. In order to so I have to put this story in context. I will start with a survey by an auto retailer that was a selfish hoax.
They Must Have Been “Smoking Crack“I read a story the other day stating that Car Max ran a survey and came up with the following statistic. According to the genius who conducted this survey safety was not important. That out of six factors consumers considered most important safety ranked next to the last, Whoever conducted this survey must of been smoking crack. Why? …….How many of you would ride in an automobile if you knew that all of the safety features were disabled?? Zero.
Look at the Above Photo. Obama, Reid, Pelosi. The image is cut off at the bottom and what you don’t see is the inscription “Truth in Advertising” Now depending upon your political cup of tea what you read could be truth in advertising or false advertising. Rant: This is Off Topic But It Must Be Exposed:
Wouldn’t it be nice to buy a car without any games? There are certain car dealers and or organizations that are addicted to advertising subterfuge. They think they are so clever by trying to force feed the public misleading advertisements and making a weak attempt to come off as straight shooters. Total nonsense.
In this case Car Max is pushing their agenda. According to this Car Max survey affordability is the #1 concern that consumers consider before buying a automobile. Really! Well…Duh!
The Truth: How Dumb Do They Think We Are?
Car Max only sales used cars. New cars cost more than used cars. So why would Car Max’s survey profoundly state that the number one factor consumers consider when they buy automobile is affordability? Well…Duh! That is like a fast food restaurant conducting a survey saying that the number one thing people consider before eating fast fast food is that they are hungry.
A Misleading Ad Disguised as an Online Survey. Shame on You Car Max!
Any survey can be rigged to get the answers you want. You don’t believe me do ya? Well mosey on over to this link http://media.carmax.com/pr/carmax/smart-release-2-19.aspx.
Now is that a real survey or is that a deceptive ad written to look like a survey? This advertisement is self serving for CarMax and does not benefit you the consumer one iota, Sophomoric attempts like this are the very reason so many hard working , salt of the earth dealers are stereotyped as con men ,cheats and chisels. From time to time a few LOSERS can sink the entire fleet by blessing and condoning this advertising mentality, Message to the Car Max Advertising department :You guys are LOSERS.
Dean Jaradi Could Save Your Life:
I hope you never have to send Dean Jaradi a thank you card. If you did it would be because he saved your life or that of a loved one. The reason? Dean Jaradi is the inventor of multiple seat belt designs his latest is the rear INFLATABLE seat belt. Check out the video on the right side of this post. Dean is an engineer for Ford that has at least four US Patents for rear seat belts. Another reason Ford stays ahead of the market.

Creature Comforts You Will Enjoy With Fords Inflatable Rear Seat Belts:
This is how the new inflatable seat belts differ from today’s current seat belts; Comfort. The inflatable seat is padded on the outside and has a smooth feel against the body and or skin. You will be pleased to learn that securing baby seats and children seats is done with confidence. Add to this the subtle softness of the seat belt, tiny tots ride in real comfort.
How Ford Stays Ahead of the Market
One way a company stays ahead of the market is attracting and keeping people of talent and vision. Great companies weave the DNA of great minds into their culture. Dean Jaradi is one of these great minds. Jaradi is an engineer for Ford that has in his Ford employment portfolio at least four US Patents for rear seat belts. On a personal note and speaking from experience, had this inflatable rear seat belt been available a few years ago, a friend of mine would be alive today. Now think about Princess Diana.

Ford Gains as Good News Abounds
December 11, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · 1 Comment
This morning I did a quick Google search on Ford Motor Company. The headlines are amazing:
- Ford Motor Company’s Quick Lane Fastest-Growing Service Brand in the Industry
- Ford Considers $500 Million Investment in Michigan for Production of Hybrids
- Ford Motor Company will off new Fiesta starting at $13,995
- Ford Fusion Gets Top Marks, Company Stock Soars
- Ford Fusion Named “Motor Trend” Magazine’s 2010 Car of the Year
- Ford Vehicle Among Best in Highest Retained value
- Ford Puts Four Vehicles in Strategic Vision 2009 Total Value Awards –Focus, Mustang, Expedition and Super Duty F-250 and F-350.
And that was just over the last few weeks. As a Ford dealer, I see it at the dealership every day. People who just a couple of years ago wouldn’t have considered a Ford or Lincoln-Mercury are taking a look and as they say “Driving One.”
Whether it’s the new found recognition by the press that Ford makes the best vehicles in America, or the awareness that Ford refused to take any government bailout money, the fact it Ford delivers for today’s consumers like never before.
Ford has become the leader with vehicles that embody compelling styling, design excellence, smart technology, safety, fuel economy, low emissions, quality, and more.
As Motor Trend Magazine said in their article announcing the Fusion’s ascension to 2010 Car of the Year, the new Fusion is “better, smarter, nicer, prettier, comfier, leaner, meaner and greener in every way.” Also in contention were the all-new Taurus and the perennial Mustang.
Top to bottom the Ford, Lincoln Mercury line up fits the bill and will only get better.
Over the next few weeks, were going to take a look at each vehicle in the 2010 lineup and take a glimpse at what’s to come.
Thanks for your interest! If I can ever be of assistance in any way please let me know.

Tiger Woods Bad Luck Charm: The Cadillac Escalade or Rachel Uchitel Photo Opp or Both?
November 29, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · 5 Comments
I don’t care what the tabloids are saying about Tiger, I’m saying that the Cadillac Escalade is bad luck for Tiger.
Tiger Woods Bad Luck Charms [BLC] –Rachel Uchitel–Griffin NYC–Cadillac Escalade–NYC Night Clubs and Photo Opps.
Lets Take Them One at a Time:
BLC #1 Rachel Uchitel: Some ingredients, mixed in the wrong cocktail can become toxic. Story goes that Tiger has a random meeting with Uchitel at a hot, trendy club called “Griffin” in the Meat Packing district of New York City. Uchitel a 30ish, statuesque blond, is a PR agent-event planner for Griffin.
BLC #2 Club Griffin and the Photo Opp: At Griffin, Tiger was demonstrating what he considers a good golf grip as part of a photo opp. According to the over the top gossip tabloids this photo opp is the start of an steamy affair between Tiger and Rachel. According to Uchitel all of this is “total nonsense”, not a lick of truth. She said that, I did not!
Night Clubs and Gossip:
BLC # 3 Griffin. One of the NYC “Hot” Clubs . Whatever city Tiger travels to he is in high demand to make an appearance ANYWHERE…. not just the latest “Hot-Spot” club. However it seems that one of the legs of this story starts at the Griffin.
Had Tiger’s advisers choose either one of the following “Hot” Clubs, Kiss and Fly, Avenue, The Gates, or Eldridge for the “Photo Opp” the picture with Uchitel never would have taken place. The wild rumors that have followed would never have surfaced. Actually since Tiger does not travel alone, does not sit around trying to figure out what club to go to, one of his travel assistants slash advisers probably recommended the Griffin.
BLC #4 The Cadillac Escalade:
The Escalade, manufactured by the government owned General Motors Corporation is a nice car…..but… What ia really amazing about this vehicle is that GM still can produce a decent vehicle using cheap parts, appointments and finishes. Whew!!! This is an engineering marvel! But a bit pricey for what you get.
Although an engineering marvel there are downsides to this technology or lack of technology.
The Escalade is boxy, noisy and has a few blind spots.
Pure Speculation; I think Tiger was distracted backing out of his driveway:
- Was it the Blind Spot? The Escalade has several blind spots, being distracted combined with a blind spot driving out of your drive way equals a fender bender.
- Was it the Noise? OK here is the pure speculation entry: So far it has been reported that the “Swinging Golf Club” incident that knocked out the back window occurred after the accident took place
- What if the “Swinging Golf Club” incident occurred BEFORE the accident? If your spouse is chasing you down the drive-way and swinging a golf club, knocking out your back window,, and who knows what else….now that could be classified as a distraction. A MAJOR distraction.
Tigers Good Luck Charms [GLC]: Elin Nordegren Woods, Tiger’s Commitment, Judgment,Intelligence and Hard Work, Isleworth Gated Community, Chevron World Challenge Golf Tournament, Any Golf Clubs used in the game of Golf, The 2010 Lincoln Navigator.
GLC #1 Elin Nordegren Woods: Low profile, classy Swedish model that becomes Tiger’s wife in October of 2004.
GLC #2 Tiger’s Commitment: Good Judgment, Intelligence and Hard Work: On a 1 to 10 scale Tiger scores a 9.5 in all four categories. Tiger is not just a champion he is a super champion. Super champions don’t make dumb mistakes.
GLC #3 Isleworth Gated Community:Real Nice neighborhood, great location and at two point five million, and if true, Tiger’s home is modest for this $$$$$ gated community.
GLC #4 Chevron World Challenge Golf Tournament: Media day will be VERY interesting.
GLC #5 Lincoln Navigator: Win, lose or draw…good bad or indifferent…. Tiger change your luck, get rid of the Escalade and move up to Lincoln Navigator.

Part Two: 5 Tips to Save Money on Used Cars, SUV’s and Trucks
November 9, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · Leave a Comment
Used Car Buying Money Saving Tip #2: Never Compromise Your Standards
The Biggest Mistake a Person Can Make When Purchasing a Used Vehicle: “Compromise”
The biggest waste of money is buying something you do not like or you lowered standards on.
Regardless of price. If you do not like it, do not buy it!
Regardless of if, you think you got a “great deal” or not if you do not like it do not buy it!
The 90-dash-2- Rule
90% of the reason you make a major purchase is centered on one or two features of that product. Think about the last major purchase you made; I bet 90% of the reason you made the purchase was because of one maybe two real nice features of that product. Whether it was a home, a car, a boat, a diamond ring, an investment, a vacation or furniture one or two features tripped your trigger.
The same is true for a vehicle purchase.
When you find yourself in the market for a preowned car, truck, SUV or van 90% of the time there are one or two “hot button” buying factors that put you in the market. Here is a list of the “factors”. You should never comprise these factors.
The Big Six “Hot Button Buying Factors” that Get You in the Market to Purchase a Vehicle.
• Safety
• Performance
• Appearance
• Comfort
• Economy
• Dependability
If you stay with me here for a minute or two, I will demonstrate how you can save money by understanding the following “Buyer Improvement” examples
Let’s look at these “Hot Button Buying Factors” one by one. {BTW, there are hundreds if not thousands of features for each one of the following factors. The ones listed are just a thumbnail.}
1. SAFETY: There is some safety feature on your current vehicle that you do not have and you want. That could be all round airbags, ASB, upgraded child safety seats, better crash ratings, a bigger vehicle, an insurance friendly safer vehicle, or 500 or so other safety features I have not mentioned here.
2. PERFORMANCE: You want More Power, Less Power, 6 to 8 cylinders, gas to diesel or hybrid, better towing ability or zero to 60 in nothing flat.
3. APPEARANCE: You are intrigued with last year’s Mustang GT cool styling, you can’t wait to get the long bed, or you want to downsize to a smaller crossover with great curb appeal.
4. COMFORT: You have decided that your current seats are “killing” your back and you want seats that are more comfortable or your current vehicle is way too small, it is time to move up.
5. ECONOMY: Besides improving your comfort factor, you also want to improve your gas mileage to 20+ MPG ,a hundred thousand miles between tuneups or a vehicle that brings a lower cost to insure.
6. DEPENDABILITY: You current vehicle requires a lot of maintenance, you are getting “nickel and dimed” to death on constant repairs. Your #1 motivating force is finding a low mileage vehicle still under warranty in your make, model and price range.
These are just a few reasons why people buy.
Once the pain of not having one of the above features or factors goes from latent to warm to hot you are now in the market for a change in your transportation needs profile. There are many more reasons why and different combination’s, but 90% of the reasons why is centered on one or two features or factors. Wouldn’t you agree?
The Point: Once you determine your need or want, NEVER COMPROMISE. If you do, you will regret your decision within two weeks of your purchase. If you set out to purchase a vehicle to get more comfortable seats, find the vehicle that delivers more comfortable seats.
Used Car Money Saving Tip #3: Cheap cars are not good and good cars are not cheap:
Always step up to the plate for a “Cherry” They always sell the quickest. You can never pay too much money for a low mileage, well-maintained vehicle. The amount of money you pay for new car [a new car means a new car to you] is in direct proportion to the size of your problem.
Example: If the seats in your current car are so uncomfortable that, you have to pay a chiropractor $2,000 dollars a year to relieve your pain, then you have at minimum a $2,000 problem.
Conversely, never buy the cheapest car on the lot. Cheap cars always have problems {relative to your standards}. The goal of buying a new is to trade in your current problem and replace it with the appropriate solution.
Definition of a “Total Waste of Money”. If you got a “great deal” on a vehicle that does not solve your pain or your problem. This will be the most expensive car you ever bought.
Used Car Money Saving Tip # 4: Easy Math– Can You Afford the Vehicle?
90% percent of the time, as long as you stay with-in 30% of the cost of your last vehicle purchase you can afford it, i.e. you paid 20K for your last vehicle you can afford to pay $26K for your new vehicle.
The cost of credit: If you finance your vehicle what you pay in interest and the terms is of course is based on your credit history. No real tricks here. The better your credit the better terms you will receive.
Used Car Money Saving Tip # 5: Four words that will get you a better deal 90% of the time. “We are buying today.”
There are three types of customers who arrive at dealerships:
1. Shoppers: A shopper is a customer who has a transportation problem but has not done sufficient research to know how to solve their problem. They are searching for a salesperson that is ethical and knowledgeable enough to guide them through the maze of buying a vehicle.
2. Buyers with Credit Issues: They have a transportation problem but credit issues are holding them back from making a purchase. This problem requires another article but heed this advice: Even if you have credit problems never compromise your standards. It will take you longer to find what you want, and perhaps a lot of money down to be financed, if so do not compromise your standards. If you have credit problems don’t waste your time or the dealers time. Tell them up front about all of your credit issues before you invest any-time and ask them what they can do to help you without compromising your standards.
3. Buyers with Good Credit. Buyers who get the most attention are the ones who have good credit and can buy. If this is you and you feel the dealer has the vehicle you are looking for just tell them, “I’m Buying a Car Today, so shoot me your best deal.” 90% of the time, they will.
My last piece of advice is to always test drive the vehicle you are interested in based on Your Lifestyle. If you drive on dirt roads with potholes, if you do a lot of stop and go, if you are constantly in a parking lot, in and out of parking spaces or if you do a lot of highway driving spent at least 30 minutes in your habitat testing your new vehicle.
If you live within 150 miles of Bartlesville invest the time to drive to our dealership so we can demonstrate the”Doenges Delightful Buying Experience” or go on line and talk to on of our internet professionals at www.doengeschoice.com. 5 Tips to Save Money on Used Cars, SUV’s and Trucks
August 12, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · 4 Comments
This is Part One of a Two Part Report on How to Save Money Buying a Preowned or Used Vehicle: ____________________________________
Cash for Clunkers has left a Void in the Used Car Market
The rush to buy new cars since the government announced the C.A.R.S has slowed down the used car market. This slow down is to the point now that it is a good time to get a good deal on a used vehicle.
Look! Are You Currently in the Market for a Preowned Vehicle?
The slow down in the used car market has created a supply and demand scenario. Demand for used cars is down and supply is up. When this happens used car prices go down. This temporary supply issue will evaporate once the C.A.R.S program comes to an end. If you are in the market to purchase a used vehicle now is the time to take action.
Why You Should Buy Now: Within 90 Days the Tables will Turn on the Market
When the government money runs out for the C.A.R.S program the pendulum will start to swing. Right now the buying emphasis is on new cars, crossovers, trucks and SUV’s. For some dealers this could lead to a shortage of new cars and create a “run” on used cars.
This could lead to steady to higher prices for new vehicles and as the supply of used cars dwindles the price of a used vehicle will rise. When this transpires the current “buyers” market will shift to a “sellers” market. End result prices on new and used vehicles will start to creep up.
“Survey Says”
In a recent poll conducted by CCI they found that the number one consumer concern when buying a used vehicle is the future reliability and safety of the vehicle purchased. Consumers at all cost want to avoid getting stuck with a lemon. When buying a used vehicle you have heard of the term “Cherry”. Every preowned shopper is looking for a “Cherry”. These 5 tips will help you find that “Cherry”
5 Tips to Save Money on a Used Car, Crossover, SUV or Truck Regardless of the Market
Tip #1. Only Buy From a National Franchised Dealer (NFD) vs an Independent Dealer
A National Franchised Dealer (NFD) would be like a Ford, Toyota ,GM, Chrysler, Honda, or Mercedes Benz dealer etc. There are a host of benefits to only buy from a National Franchised Dealer such as:
- A NFD has Access to higher quality used cars that a franchised dealer gets on a new car trade-ins.
- Only NFD are allowed and can leverage the privilege of buying from factory sponsored auctions.
- Independents usually end-up with left over ’seconds” from auctions that quality NFD dealers pass on.
- NFD have 10 times the service facility that an independent has that guarantees some sort of pre-inspection service before and after the sale.
- Quality NFD put all their used vehicles through a rigorous certification examination and approval process before they are offered to the public for sale.
- NFD have more finance sources than independents.
- NFD’s will 8 out of 10 times provide more favorable purchasing terms than an independent.
- NFD’s have more resources to offer choices of extended used car warranties than independents.
- NFD’s will 9 out of 10 times give you more money for your trade-in.
- The life expectancy of a NDF is 30 times longer than that of an independent.

CARS $4,500 Cash Allowance Rebate Systems [C.A.R.S.] Starts Friday July 24 @ Doenges Ford Lincoln Mercury Toyota in Bartlesville
July 17, 2009 by Brad - Your Car Guy · 4 Comments
“We may never see this Obama Government $4,500 Cash Give Away again”.
The Cash Giveaway is in the form of Government issued Cash Vouchers. There are two Vouchers, One is good for $3,500 and the other is good $4,500. You can only buy a New Car, Truck, Van or SUV that is more fuel efficient than your trade in.
More Interesting Details About C.A.R.S?
* Cars is the Car Allowance Rebate System that allows U.S. car buyers to trade in their old “clunker” for a more fuel efficient vehicle.
* The rebate system will make it so that customers will receive $3500 vouchers or $4500 vouchers towards the purchase of a new fuel efficient vehicle.
* The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has $1 billion dollars to award to those who qualify.
* The money is expected to cover up to 250,000 (estimated) trade-ins. Once the money runs out there will be no more CARS deals. Many are speculating that the funds will be depleted by the middle of August.
* EZ-EZ-EZ. Our Goal is to make this CARS buying process here at Doenges,
How To Get The Money.
Come to Doenges Ford, Lincoln Mercury Toyota on Hiway 75 in Bartlesville- 918-333-0900
1. Select any New Car, Truck, Van, Crossover or SUV
2. The new vehicle must get at least 15 miles to the gallon. (See Chart Below)
3. The “Clunker” or Trade in must be in drivable condition.
4. The New Vehicle being purchased must have a MSRP of $45,000 or less.
5. The trade-in must get less than 18 miles per gallon
6. The trade-in applies to all vehicles manufactured from 1984 forward or the last 25 years.
7. We will do all the paper work for you to make sure you qualify.
One More Very IMPORTANT Hurdle to Clear in Order to Qualify for the $4,500 or the $3,500 Voucher
* Insurance: Required is continuous coverage for the last 12 months on the clunker
* Registration : Must also prove it was registered for the last 12 months as well
* The Word Continuous: Although there is still a week left before this starts we are hoping for a clarification on the word “Continuous”. It does not seem fair that if you have owned a car for 10 years and maybe there was a gap for a month or two you are locked out of the offer.
* Red Tape: Like all government programs there is a lot of red tape. Here at Doenges we are trained how to get through all the red tape and make this a simple process, Call Smokey at 918-333-0900 for all the information.
