2009 Ford Taurus X - Gets the Pink Slip!

December 10, 2008 by Brad - Your Car Guy

2008 Ford Taurus XWhat started the year out as one of the top crossovers on the market is now in the obituary column. As one of the top new crossover vehicles available today, the 2008 Ford Taurus X is very well-appointed with standard equipment and options, and it’s quite spacious. Currently offered for a very affordable price, and with three different models to choose from, the 2009 Ford Taurus is ending production, probably for good in February 2009. The Taurus X was designed to be anything from an economical people mover that seats seven to a top-of-the-line luxury crossover vehicle. Sporting a 3.5L V6 engine and available with all wheel drive (AWD), the 2008 model provides a very stable platform in any type of weather conditions. This vehicle had everything moving in the right direction.

Taurus Tech Tag…

The 2009 Ford Taurus X has the latest innovations and technological advances, like the SYNC voice integrated in car communication system for Bluetooth and MP3 compatibility (factory installed, and currently exclusive to Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles), and SIRIUS satellite radio to keep your music close by regardless of whether you’re traveling around Tulsa or Bartlesville , or in far reaches of the country. These additional family entertainment system features made the 2009 Ford Taurus the perfect family vehicle. And, a sharp interior design gave it a classy yet still functional feel.

Safe Shopping in a Ford Crossover Vehicle

As with all Ford vehicles, safety is a top priority. That’s why the 2009 Ford Taurus X is rated as the safest full size car in America. But wait…there’s more . The 2009 Ford Taurus X comes with electronic stability control (ESC) to provide the driver with better handling and control during a skid. Reverse sensors help prevent backing into any unseen objects. A keyless entry keypad on the driver’s door makes sure you’re never locked out of your vehicle. With a top five star crash rating, the ’09 Ford Taurus X has side airbags and side curtain airbags to protect the passengers in the event of an accident.

Why would Ford cancel production on such a fine automobile?

It certainly was not the gas economy or the that extra storage space.

As a crossover vehicle, the 2009 Ford Taurus X gets economical gas mileage, getting the most mpg possible and making your travels locally in Dewey or Glenoak just as easy as long road trips. With the staggering fuel costs lately, this is critical. And, in addition to the large Ford Taurus X cargo capacity, with Taurus X towing capacity ranking high, you can easily take all of your gear with you as you and your family enjoy your active lifestyle.

Making Room

So what is going on here? One of Fords problems is that they have designed too many good automobiles. Ford Motor company is the only American automobile manufacturer that will be able
to survive the current financial and economic crisis that ALL industries are facing today.

However since the government is willing to throw some money at GM and Chrysler my manufacturer, Ford would like to at least tap into their fair share. At least this way it levels the palying field (although I believe Ford is in better shape and has more competitive products).

To stay competitive Ford had to consolidate some of their product lines. So instead of offering too many choices, the idea now is to fewer but far better choices in makes and models.

The Taurus X is being phased out in place of the new Ford Flex, which is going to be a very exciting vehicle to ride and drive.

With competition from Chrysler 300, Toyota Camry, and Chevrolet Impala, you’ll quickly see that the Ford Flex is a ride above the rest and deliver safety, comfort, handling, performance, affordability, and versatility in all of its latest models. My Ford dealership is in Bartlesville, Oklahoma stop by and take a Flex for a test drive and tell the sales consultant Brad sent you by.

why are they calling a station wagon a cross over ? Why not admit people like station wagons and that SUVs are really red neck station wagons with larger wheels ?

India is the ultimate travel experience in my opinion. It can burn you out and that for sure, but not to be missed. :) If you are around the Taj Mahal next Christmas have a coffee with me.

Why did ford stupidly slect to delet the taurus x and to keep the flex the uglest of the two (it looks like a cracker box!! on wheels–with all the aerodynamics of a brick–gets poorer gas milage)

Ford resureted the taurus car why not the taurus suv and drop the terminally ugly flex!!??

The ‘09 Taurus X may be gone but it’s chassis is serving as the starting point for the 2011 Ford Explorer. Word is the beefier rear suspension from the Flex (also shares same Volvo XC90 chassis with the Taurus X) is being grafted onto the Taurus X wheelbase and the chassis is being widen a few inches and the exterior styling revamped to create the new 2011 Ford Explorer.

Ford had a lot of overlap between the Edge, Taurus X and Flex CUV’s not to mention with the Explorer SUV. By revamping the Taurus X into the Explorer there is going to be a huge improvement in quality over the current Explorer yet eliminate a lot of redundancy.

In the end, a logical move by Ford.
